Touch of Fate
58
Without entering into a religious or philosophical debate, I'm curious about the concept of what some call fate, karma, destiny, miracles, or just plain luck. Within the past day, I've read of a news story defying reason and experienced something personal I cannot wrap my mind around.
It was reported a few days ago that lightning struck a 51-year old Serbian woman suffering from arrhythmia, a sometimes fatal heart condition consisting of an irregular heartbeat. Not only did she survive; the strike cured her arrhythmia. The odds of being struck by lightning?
156,000 to 1.
The odds of having your arrhythmia cured by a lightning strike?
Inconceivable.
Whether fate, karma, destiny, a miracle, or just plain luck, it is fascinating. This woman will live longer from something that should have killed her.
In my own life, the situation is not as positive but the fascination remains. Weeks ago, when Disney released "UP", my wife and I put off seeing it and put off seeing it. Meanwhile, my wife's grandfather, a 89-year old man, has battled for the last few months, along with his wife, with declining health. Not until Sunday did my wife and me decide to go see "UP"--the very same day we found out our grandfather has less than two weeks to live.
I won't spoil the summary of "UP" for those who have not seen it. Needless to say, it struck a chord. A chord that made me consider why these two moments chose to align at exactly this time. See for yourself:
Fate, karma, destiny, miracles, or just plain luck? No matter what you believe, these moments make you think.
Let's hear about your moment. Describe a time that defied all explanation.
